Looking at the Newcastle team v Everton.
The NUFC players hoping to make it seven home Premier League victories in a row.
Premier League at St James’ Park over Chelsea, Ipswich, Brentford, Forest, Man U and Palace.
A win today would of course guarantee Champions League football and a top five finish to end this season.
So, what can we expect the Newcastle team v Everton to be?
On Friday morning, Eddie Howe giving an injury and availability update:
Eddie Howe on Joelinton:
The Head Coach confirming that the Brazil international won’t be available on Sunday.
Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak:
“He has made good progress and there is a chance [of Isak being available for the Everton match].
“He has to be fit enough to give his best, for him to play.
“The next couple of days will be absolutely crucial and until he trains with us we won’t know how he will cope with the demands we put upon us.”
The NUFC boss saying that the striker has been running at the training ground this week and that the plan was for Alexander Isak to be included in group training on Saturday and then the outcome of that will dictate whether or not he will be available for the Everton match.
Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier:
“He is in a similar situation to Alex and has not trained yet.”
Howe indicating that if the England international came through Saturday’s training ok, then he will be considered for Sunday’s game.
So as things stand, it appears we have Joelinton, Matt Targett and Lewis Hall definitely missing the Everton match.
With then question marks over Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier.
So where does that leave us…?
This was the Newcastle team v Arsenal:
Pope, Botman, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Gordon, Tonali, Bruno, Barnes, Wilson, Murphy
In the absence of Hall and Trippier, Eddie Howe went with three defenders in Burn, Schar and Botman, with Livramento left wing-back and Murphy right wing-back. Whilst of course Wilson came in for Isak.
It obviously will largely be determined by who Eddie Howe has available but I think this is what he will go with today.
My predicted Newcastle team v Everton:
Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Tonali, Bruno, Willock, Gordon, Isak, Murphy
All depends on their availability of course but if they are up for selection, I think Eddie Howe will definitely bring in Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier, as well as Joe Willock.
Isak is a no-brainer and I think Eddie Howe will for sure want to revert to his usual back four set-up, with Trippier back in at right-back.
These changes would mean Botman, Wilson and Barnes dropping to the bench.
Joe Willock wasn’t fit enough to start at Arsenal and only made a late sub appearance. With another week of training he should be ok to start. Allowing Eddie Howe to have his three in midfield plus two wingers supporting Isak.
Gordon over Barnes may seem harsh to some people based on recent matches but Anthony Gordon is first choice and a big game player, who I think Eddie Howe will want on the pitch. Barnes has also shown he is often a real goal threat off the bench.
As for Sven Botman, another great option from the bench. He is still getting back to full fitness and focus, so Eddie Howe to me would prefer on this occasion Schar and Burn to start, his first choice pairing this season.
