Looking at the Newcastle team v Wolves.
Eddie Howe and his players hoping to continue the levels of their eight excellent wins and performances against Leicester, Brentford, Ipswich, Aston Villa, Man U, Spurs, Arsenal and Bromley.
Eight victories and twenty three goals scored, just the three conceded.
A win tonight would see United move into the Premier League top four.
So, what can we expect the Newcastle team v Wolves to be?
As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Bromley:
Dubravka, Trippier, Schar, Kelly, Targett, Longstaff, Miley, Joelinton, Barnes, Almiron, Osula
On Tuesday morning, Eddie Howe revealed that a thigh injury picked up during Sunday’s match would see Harvey Barnes be missing for around a month now.
I think safe to say that Callum Wilson, Emil Krafth, Nick Pope and Jamaal Lascelles won’t be in contention either to start this match against Wolves.
Alexander Isak, Joe Willock, Sven Botman and Jacob Murphy were all left out of Sunday’s matchday squad but Eddie Howe appeared to indicate yesterday, that all of these four will be in contention for the team tonight.
Anyway, my take on all of this, my best guesstimate of the Newcastle team v Wolves:
Dubravka, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Joelinton, Bruno, Murphy, Isak, Gordon
If that becomes the reality, it would mean eight changes from the starting eleven against Bromley.
IN:
Livramento, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Bruno, Murphy, Isak, Gordon
Trippier, Kelly, Targett, Longstaff, Miley, Barnes, Almiron, Osula
There were some good performances against Bromley from squad players, who hadn’t had much football this season, especially Lewis Miley. However, very difficult to see any of them included tonight.
The forward trio of Gordon, Murphy and Isak look nailed on to start.
As do the now usual midfield trio of Tonali and the two Brazilians.
Martin Dubravka set to start, which leaves the back four.
For me, I think for sure Livramento, Schar and Hall will be playing against Wolves, all three of them have been excellent recently.
Whilst I believe it will be the same with Dan Burn.
What a season he is having, Burn playing every single Premier League minute this season, apart from when suspended for the West Ham defeat.
Absolutely brilliant to have Sven Botman back available and what a game he had against Arsenal last week, alongside Burn.
However, a great position for Eddie Howe to be in, not feeling pressurised to have to play the returning Botman every match.
This next month, from 15 January to 15 February, sees seven massive games across three competitions, that look set to play a key part in NUFC’s ambitions the rest of this season, so Eddie Howe needing as many options as possible available.
