Liam Rosenior will eventually be sacked because of bad results. But are those results really his fault, or the fault of the whole club’s failing project? According to Alan Shearer, both should get some blame.
“A bit of both. I think the system Chelsea have adopted and chosen to do is very difficult for whoever goes in there. We’ve seen many managers go in there and struggle. He’s doing the same,” Shearer said on NBC Sports’ post game coverage.
“It’s difficult to get young players and get them to compete, week after week, and then try to turn it into a huge profit. That’s a difficult job for any manager, let alone a young manager. I blame a bit of both.”
Of course both are due some blame, there’s a micro and a macro picture, and neither are looking too pretty right now. Rosenior is not playing the right cards, but he’s been given a horrible hand by the ownership.
But wherever the fault lies, we all know who will end up ultimately taking the blame.
Some of Chelsea’s attack problems are down to their players – every single Blues attacker has a lower goals scored than their career xG would suggest.
However some of it is systematic too – the Blues are creating low quality chances under Liam Rosenior.
