It’s another Saturday evening clash for Eintracht on Bundesliga Matchday 28 at Werder Bremen, a fixture rich in tradition between two teams who won last time out.
The state of play
After the impressive performance and deserved 1-0 win at home to VfB Stuttgart last Saturday, the Eagles are in for another test this Saturday, 5 April, away to Werder Bremen on Bundesliga Matchday 28. Kick-off at the Weserstadion is at 18:30 CEST. Werder are currently 12th in the table with 36 points, while Eintracht are third with 48. Werder were 3-0 winners at Holstein Kiel last weekend.
Looking back
The two clubs have met 107 times in the German top flight, having been founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963. The men from Bremen are slightly ahead in the stats with 43 wins to 39, including 29 victories at home. Incidentally, though, Werder have lost their last three games on the River Weser, their worst run at home since four consecutive losses from March to May 2023. Overall, Ole Werner’s side have lost four of their five home matches in the second half of the season.
The reverse fixture at Deutsche Bank Park ended in a 1-0 win for Eintracht courtesy of Mario Götze’s strike. It was the Frankfurt number 27’s eighth goal against Bremen – he’s not scored more times than that against any other team in the Bundesliga. The same goes for Ellyes Skhiri, who has found the net three times against Werder.
“100 percent focused” “We’ve just managed back-to-back wins again – that’s how it has to continue,” said Nnamdi Collins in light of the victories over Bochum and Stuttgart either side of the recent international break. The next step in the business end of the season, with seven matches left to play, is putting another three points on the board. “Our focus is winning the next game at Bremen,” said sporting director Timmo Hardung. “We want to, and we can, but to do so we need to be 100 percent focused again.”
