Led by former player James Morrison, strugglers West Brom seek their first Championship win since December as they host a Southampton side on a late push for the playoffs at the Hawthorns tomorrow night.

The Baggies, currently 21st and just a single point above the drop, fought hard for a point at Sheffield United last time out and now hope for a rare win to boost their survival hopes, they’ll have a tough task on their hands as the Saints are unbeaten in their last 10 matches.

West Brom’s season has been one that’s gone from bad to worse, with a defeat to Leicester City in early January leading to Ryan Mason’s exit before Eric Ramsey failed to win any of his first nine matches in charge and was also dismissed. Morrison has taken assumed control of a team still well in danger of being relegated to League One.

In contrasting form, Southampton endured a sticky patch after the permanent signing of Tonda Eckert who replaced the outgoing Will Still. After a series of disappointing results, Southampton have now lost just once in their last 11 games and sit on the cusp of the play-off spots. A 3-1 win away at Sheffield Wednesday was followed by Saints’ fantastic 1-0 victory over Premier League side Fulham, which put the South-Coast side into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they will host Arsenal.

The home side now face 10 “cup finals” to save themselves from relegation as defeats against Oxford and Leicester have put the Baggies in big trouble, they currently sit just one point above Leicester City in the relegation zone and with the Foxes having more favourable fixtures, it’s crucial that Albion start to pick up points. Their 1-1 draw with Charlton has meant that the West Midlands club have still failed to win so far in 2026.

Interim manager James Morrison has stated his side ”can’t get carried away” after their draw and has stated they ”need every single point we can get” as they gear up for a tough relegation battle with sides such as Leicester, Oxford, Blackburn and Portsmouth all vying to avoid the drop at the expense of the Baggies.

In a much happier camp, Southampton manager Tonda Eckert has called for ”continued humility” after his side’s massive wins, ”I think we are in a good moment, and we need to carry on. We need to stay humble” said the German manager. It may seem a guarantee that his side would walk to another three points; however, it would be naive to assume former player Morrison won’t be able to get the Baggies up for such a huge match.

Albion were dealt a huge blow in their draw against Sheffield United when defender Krystian Bielik was forced off at half-time, further limiting Morrison’s options. He will be joined in the treatment room by Karlan Grant, who missed the entirety of Eric Ramsay’s tenure with a hamstring injury and will continue to be out. Winger Mikey Johnston is also still sidelined, having suffered a stress fracture last month.

Southampton will still be without youngster Jay Robinson, who has a muscle injury, whereas full-back Mads Roerslev and centre-forward Cyle Larin are both expected to remain out for the foreseeable future.

The game is due to take place on Wednesday March 11th, kick-off is scheduled for 7:45pm (UK time.)
