FLW's Plymouth Argyle fan pundit has given his verdict on a potential permanent move for Leeds United's Darko Gyabi
Darko Gyabi has proven himself as a key player for Plymouth Argyle during his loan spell from Leeds United so far.
The midfielder re-joined the Pilgrims on a temporary basis, having spent the second half of the previous campaign at Home Park.
He has featured in all 12 of their opening league games so far this term, making 10 starts.
While he came off the bench in their 3-3 draw with Preston North End, he had started each of their previous nine league games.
His performances have raised the question over his long-term future, and whether a permanent move to Plymouth could be on the cards.
When asked whether the club should pursue a permanent move for the 20-year-old, FLW’s Plymouth fan pundit Chris believes it’s something they will want to do.
However, he is unsure whether Leeds will be willing to sell at a price that will be deemed affordable by the Pilgrims.
“Darko Gyabi has been a solid midfield option for Argyle this season,” Chris told Football League World.
“With consistent performances in recent games, showing he’s a very talented midfield player, it’s something which Argyle I believe will want to explore in terms of a permanent option.
“Since signing for Leeds United in the Kalvin Phillips swap deal, so far Darko Gyabi hasn’t seen much action for Leeds United.
“This is his second loan spell with Argyle, with some fans now enjoying his style of football after a very staggered start, particularly for the 4-0 loss we had to Sheffield Wednesday.
“He’s now a solid midfield option, which Wayne Rooney often selects in the starting XI, and his quality seems to be shining through.
“Although he didn’t score many goals last season, I believe he’ll continue to improve under Rooney’s guidance and therefore we’ll see some goals come from him.
“A permanent signing of Darko Gyabi would be a positive move for both himself, as well as for the club.
“However, I don’t believe Leeds will want to let him go for a cheap valuation, and I think that might help to price him out of our range.”
Plymouth’s status in the Championship could be key to keeping Gyabi on a permanent basis, especially given the financial impact of relegation to League One.
Rooney’s side sit 21st in the table, just one point clear of the relegation zone after 12 games.
Plymouth have 12 points, having won three, drawn three and lost three, with their ambition for this year being to avoid relegation to the third tier.
Gyabi has now made a total of 22 appearances for the club across his two spells while on loan from Leeds.
Gyabi has been unable to break into the Leeds first team squad, and it looks unlikely he will anytime soon given there’s been very little concern over a potential January recall despite the Whites’ injury crisis in midfield.
On that basis, a permanent move in the summer would be a good solution for the next step in his career, but that could all depend on Plymouth’s league status.
If they are still in the Championship, then they may be able to convince Leeds to cash in on the youngster.
