Lucas, known for Little Britain, received his honour for services to drama.

Lucas, 52, said: “I asked him about football and whether he would be able to get to the cup final tomorrow that Aston Villa are playing in, and he said he can.

“He asked me what I was up to workwise and said some kind things about my work.”

Lucas is starting rehearsals for his next stint as Monsieur Thenardier in Les Miserables: The Arena Spectacular tour.

But he took a day out of his work schedule as he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama.

Lucas said: “I’ve done the show in different forms, you know, in the original production, in the more recent production, in the West End and the concert version.

“It is a lovely thing to come back to and try and find new sides to the character each time and try to bring something else to it each time.

“I have worked alongside a lot of different actors playing Madame Thenardier, so obviously the dynamic changes every time you are with somebody new, so it’s always enjoyable to explore that.”

Teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo were also among the stars honoured at Tuesday’s ceremony.

Last week, sports commentator Clive Tyldesley affirmed William’s authentic passion for Aston Villa, saying there is "nothing manufactured" about his dedication to the Premier League club.

Speaking at a Windsor Castle investiture ceremony on Wednesday 13, Tyldesley described William’s allegiance as "clearly a passion of his".

He further noted that the royal’s commitment to the club establishes "a genuine link between the (Royal) family and the national sport".

The legendary football commentator said: "There’s nothing manufactured about his love for his football team. "He is not a supporter of the most famous club in the country.

"He’s a supporter of a team that’s had its highs and lows and is just about to enjoy, hopefully, a wonderful high next week."
