Sport Bild reports that 1. FC Köln’s Said El Mala may ultimately end up forcing a move to Borussia Dortmund this summer. According to the tabloid, there was a recent exchange with the 19-year-old’s camp during which El Mala “clearly signaled” his willingness to move. Naturally, this doesn’t change the fact that the two Bundesliga clubs remain almost impossibly far apart on the matter of the transfer fee.

Dortmund’s opening package was immediately rejected, with Köln continuing to demand at least €50m. Reports differ on its construction: Sport Bild placed it at €34m plus €6m in bonuses, while Sky Germany cited €26m guaranteed and up to €16m in add-ons.

El Mala has attracted outside interest since before his Bundesliga debut. Brighton tested Köln’s resolve with a €10m proposal before preparing a €15m follow-up. Köln repeatedly designated the winger “un-sellable”, while his development strengthened their negotiating position.

El Mala delivered 13 goals and five assists during his first Bundesliga campaign.

A protracted transfer saga looms.
