Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Budapest to clinch a back-to-back European crown, but that result left the 2029 Club World Cup with only six confirmed teams at that point, as PSG had already qualified last year.
Globo.com reports that the final list grew later on Saturday night. Toluca then defeated Tigres to win the Concacaf Champions Cup, becoming the seventh qualified side.
The seven clubs confirmed for 2029 are Paris Saint-Germain, Flamengo, Cruz Azul, Toluca, Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia, Pyramids of Egypt and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
PSG are in as 2024/25 UEFA Champions League winners. Flamengo booked their place by winning the 2025 Copa Libertadores. Cruz Azul and Toluca qualified as Concacaf champions in 2025 and 2026, while Al-Ahli claimed back-to-back AFC titles in 2024/25 and 2025/26, and Pyramids and Mamelodi Sundowns took the CAF crowns in 2024/25 and 2025/26.
FIFA has yet to name a host for the tournament’s second edition. While an expansion to 48 teams has been discussed, it is currently expected to repeat the original 32-team format.
The inaugural event in the United States in 2025 featured four Brazilian sides. Fluminense reached the semi-finals, Palmeiras the quarter-finals, and Botafogo and Flamengo went out in the last 16. Chelsea took the title by beating PSG 3-0 in the final after losing to Flamengo in the group stage and eliminating Palmeiras and Fluminense in the knockouts.
