PSG coach’s foundation wins Sócrates Award at 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony

Last Monday, the 22nd, France Football magazine organized the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which includes various awards related to football. One of the awards is named after Sócrates, a Corinthians idol, who is remembered worldwide for his political activism. The Sócrates Award aims to recognize significant projects linked to football figures.

The winner of the current edition was the Xana Foundation, named after the late daughter of Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain. The coach was represented by his eldest daughter, Sira Martínez, who delivered the speech after receiving the trophy.

“I would like to thank the organizers for this award. We appreciate it greatly and are happy with the visibility we are receiving and the recognition of our work. The legacy of this foundation is very special. In my family, we believe that Xana is with us spiritually”, Sira began.

“She came into the world, stayed for a short time because she had bigger things to do beyond this life. That's why we created this foundation, which bears her name, to honor her. And I am sure she is proud and knows how we are helping many families in difficult times”, said the patron during the speech.

The award began in 2022, with forward Sadio Mané winning for his work in Senegal. The following year, it was Vinícius Júnior's turn to be recognized and take the award. Last year, Spanish national team player Jennifer Hermoso won the category.

As mentioned, Sócrates is one of the greatest idols in Corinthians' history, both on and off the field. Off the field, he was one of the leaders in the fight for direct voting in Brazil. On the field, he won five titles, played 298 matches, and scored 172 goals.
