Paris Saint-Germain returned to the Ligue 1 summit and reclaimed Classique bragging rights with a ruthless dismantling of Marseille. According to GetFootballNewsFrance.com, Roberto De Zerbi’s position in Provence now looks increasingly precarious.

Ousmane Dembélé struck twice before the break. He opened with a straightforward one-on-one after Nuno Mendes burst down the left and crossed, then slalomed through the visitors and whipped an outside of the boot finish past De Lange.

Those two goals took him to the 50-goal mark for PSG. Neves then extended the lead, Dembélé soon crossed for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to volley in moments after the Georgian came on, and Kang-in Lee completed the rout.

Luis Enrique told reporters he had long said Dembélé is different on and off the ball, particularly in his pressing, and noted some had questioned his consistency. He added it had been hard for the winger to regain his level, but when match-fit he has been very special.

Marseille’s slide continued as a five-man defence left them short in midfield and chances for the front three were scarce. De Zerbi said he had no explanation, accepted responsibility, and, evasive over his future, added he was not discouraged, only sad at the manner of the display.

Bradley Barcola’s lively running past Benjamin Pavard brought little end product. He finished without a shot on target or telling final ball, struck the post on the hour, and more accurate crosses might have picked out Neves and Doué at the back post.
