PSG fail to break Barcelona’s historic record

When it comes to attacking output across an entire calendar year, FC Barcelona still set a benchmark that even one of Europe’s most potent offences in 2025 could not surpass.

Barcelona’s incredible 180-goal haul in 2015 remains the official record for the most goals scored in a calendar year by any club in football history.

That tally was achieved under then-manager Luis Enrique, with a frontline boasting Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, who combined for the lion’s share of those strikes and helped Barca dominate on all fronts that year.

By comparison, Paris Saint-Germain in 2025 – despite their attacking brilliance in Ligue 1, Champions League and other competitions – ended the calendar year with 178 goals across all competitions.

While a stunning achievement in its own right, it still falls short of Barcelona’s mark from a decade earlier.

That means Barça’s historic 2015 remains the highest attacking output any club has registered in a single year.

A look at the numbers

Barcelona’s 2015 season was truly remarkable. The team not only broke the goalscoring record, but also dominated across competitions, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup all within 12 months.

The attacking trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar scored the bulk of those goals, combining for 137 of the total 180, which is a record attacking partnership that many still consider unmatched.

Of these goals, Messi scored 48, as many as Suarez, while Neymar netted 41. Between January and June alone, the Blaugrana scored 10,7 while the rest 73 were scored between August and December.

Fast-forward to 2025, and PSG under Enrique have been praised for building a highly effective attacking unit.

The French side has scored freely through stars like Ousmane Dembele, helping PSG claim major honours, including a Champions League title and domestic triumphs.

Yet even with such prolific figures, PSG’s output across the year did not quite eclipse Barcelona’s record.
