France take on Israel next week in a Nations League game at national stadium Stade de France.

The banner was unfurled in the Auteuil Kop, with a message underneath which read: "War on the pitch, but peace in the world.

During the match, another message was unrolled that read: "Does a child's life in Gaza mean less than another?"

Interior minister Bruno Retailleau described the banner as "unacceptable” and has threatened PSG with sanctions, telling Sud Radio: "I am not ruling out anything. I will demand explanations from PSG."

PSG have denied prior knowledge of "any plans to display such a message".

A club statement read: "Paris Saint-Germain recalls that the Parc des Princes is - and must remain -- a place of communion around a common passion for soccer and firmly opposes any message of a political nature in its stadium.

France has the largest Jewish community in Europe - and the third in the world, way behind the United States and Israel - as well as the biggest number of Muslims in Europe.
