PSG held to a draw by Lorient, but stay top of Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain took advantage of Olympique de Marseille's slip to remain at the top of the French Championship. On Wednesday, the Parisian team drew 1-1 with Lorient at Stade Yves Allainmat-Le Moustoir, in the 10th round of the competition. Nuno Mendes scored for PSG, while Brazilian Igor Silva scored for the hosts.

Standings Situation

With the draw, PSG reached 21 points and remained at the top of the table. Olympique de Marseille, which could have overtaken the rival, also drew — 2-2 with Angers — while Lens was defeated 2-0 by Metz, the tournament's bottom team, and also missed the chance to take the lead.

Lorient, on the other hand, is in 16th place with nine points and continues to fight to move away from the relegation zone.

How was the game?

The first half didn't have many thrills or clear scoring opportunities for either side. It was only in the second half that the match changed its scenario.

At four minutes into the second half, PSG opened the scoring with Nuno Mendes, who took advantage of a rebound after a save by goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo to find the net. Lorient's response came quickly: two minutes later, Brazilian Igor Silva hit a beautiful shot from outside the area to equalize the match.

The current Ballon d'Or winner, Dembélé, had a discreet performance and was substituted in the latter part of the game. PSG continued to press for the win but couldn't convert the chances created.
