Paris Saint-Germain were dumped out of the Coupe de France after suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to city rivals Paris FC, despite dominating large spells of the contest.
Meeting for the second time in little over a week, PSG controlled possession from the outset and largely dictated the tempo, but struggled to turn that dominance into clear-cut chances against a well-drilled Paris FC side set up to defend deep and counter.
The first half was low on genuine openings. PSG probed patiently but lacked sharpness in the final third, while Paris FC remained compact and disciplined. The clearest opportunity before the break fell just before half-time, when a close-range effort was kept out by an excellent save from the visiting goalkeeper.
PSG emerged with greater urgency after the interval and created several promising chances early in the second half, forcing Paris FC onto the back foot. The hosts increased the intensity and introduced fresh attacking options in an attempt to stretch the game, with more space beginning to appear down the flanks.
However, against the run of play, Paris FC struck decisively. A quick transition released Jonathan Ikoné down the right, and he finished calmly inside the box to give the underdogs a stunning lead.
PSG threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, pinning Paris FC deep for the remainder of the match. Chances came and went, including a strike that crashed against the crossbar and a late effort that required another fine save, but the visitors held firm.
In the end, PSG’s lack of cutting edge proved costly, as Paris FC capitalised on their moment to seal a famous win and knock their neighbours out of the French Cup.
