Christian Pulisic admits that it has been a ‘difficult time’ on a personal and collective level in the final stages of the 2025-26 season with Milan, but insists that he will soon overcome his ongoing goal drought: ‘Sometimes one will bounce off your knee and go in and then it seems like everything goes in after that’.

Pulisic: ‘Difficult time’ for Milan, but not concerned by ongoing goal drought

The USMNT star began the 2025-26 season on blistering form, providing four goals and two assists from his first six Serie A matches of the season. His league tally had risen to eight goals by the end of December, but the former Chelsea attacker has not found the back of the net for club nor country since then.

Collectively, it was a disastrous end to the season for Milan, who missed out on qualification to the Champions League on the final day of the 2025-26 season despite the fact that they had spent much of the campaign in second place.

The underwhelming fifth-place finish led to the immediate departures of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani the day after the season ended.

“I don’t try to place blame or figure out the problems,” Pulisic said in an interview with ESPN. “There are moments where I could have done better and it was a difficult time for our team. It was a difficult time for me, and that’s what it comes down to.”

He continued: “I haven’t changed the way I train, the way that I prepare, the way that I continue to move forward and try to improve every day. I’m still doing that every day and that’s why I can keep my head high. Obviously, I’m disappointed but now I have to look forward to what’s in front of me.”

Pulisic also insists that he is not concerned by the fact that he is still without a goal in 2026: “I’ve had this happen before in my career,” he says.

“There’s difficult times and then sometimes one will bounce off your knee and go in and then it seems like everything goes in after that.”
