Head coach Dino Toppmöller, Ansgar Knauff and Can Uzun describe the remarkable course of events in Mönchengladbach after Eintracht’s 6-4 win.
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “What a football match! Ten goals, six in a row for us then four in a row for Gladbach. We performed with good intensity, power and energy against a team who have been given a lift by the change of coach. We knew what to expect and we pulled the plug on everything pretty quickly. For 70 minutes it was an incredibly good away performance and we had it all under control. We lost shape because of all the substitutions, and then sometimes that’s the way it goes in football.”
Ansgar Knauff: “We were very sharp in our counter-pressing and had a lot of the ball. We immediately implemented what we set out to do. First of all we wanted to do the basics: intensive pressing and not shirking the tackles. We linked up well going forward, particularly in the first half, and kept creating chances to score. We can’t allow what happened in the final half an hour to happen, even with the score at 6-0.”
Can Uzun: “Of course, it wasn’t obvious that things would turn out this way and I’d score so many times in succession. It was a nice goal by me after a great assist from Farès. The first half was a lot of fun. We hardly gave them anything before the break, I’m happy about the win. I have full confidence in our defence. We scored six goals, which is amazing. Atlético will be awesome opponents. Hopefully I’ll also score against Bayern.”
