For all that has gone wrong for Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester, the moment following the official Jamie Vardy decision was handled the right way. The LCFC boss has come under scrutiny for a lot of aspects at the club. His future with the Foxes is highly uncertain at best. Sometimes, the player-to-player moment can overshadow the lack of results, particularly after a club icon announces his departure.
It's something of an impossible position. When someone like Vardy makes it known that he will be continuing his career elsewhere, the manager in charge is expected to comment. Seeing as coaches are hired to be fired, the longevity and connection of the star player to the club heavily outweigh the presence of the new face at the club.
Even for someone as well-known and accomplished as van Nistelrooy, for City fans, Vardy will always be held in higher regard in the East Midlands, and it isn't particularly close. Despite these factors, the Dutchman handled the moment well. Sharing, based on his past experiences, and likely pulling from when he was toward the end of his playing days, he spoke on what the news means for LCFC and Vardy moving forward.
He first noted how there will not be a player who can replace or replicate the impact or meaning that Vardy has had with the Foxes. That is beyond dispute. That being said, the business of the club must continue. They will be looking for forwards in the market to potentially fill their number nine role for the foreseeable upcoming campaigns.
The questions with Vardy are about where he could potentially play next. His name recognition would certainly attract an MLS or Saudi side to offer him a spot on their respective rosters. Despite the poor season, a top club and competitive team in either the Premier League or one of Europe's other top divisions would benefit from adding someone with his abilities in their hunt for silverware.
RvN spoke on what the next couple of years could potentially look like for the striker. As shared by Leicestershire Live, the former Dutch international believes any number of suitable options could fit. He elaborated:
"Of course there's many possibilities from east to west to Europe. So he will pick the right place in the right level for him and enjoy his last years."
The end is nearing for Vardy, but finding a good fit will be the aim for his next destination. He hasn't said what he'd potentially look for in a club, but it's safe to assume that he'll want to be somewhere he believes will give him the desired end to his career. Otherwise, he would stay with Leicester.
It's unknown what that exactly looks like at the moment. He could want the best chance to win more trophies, or he could want to play in a lower-level league and simply enjoy scoring goals. Either way, he's earned every right to make what he views as best.
