QPR could be in for a hefty cash windfall this summer if Ebere Eze leaves Crystal Palace.
Eberechi Eze is a man in red-hot form, and Queens Park Rangers will be licking their lips at a potential cash windfall coming their way in the summer.
With three goals and three assists in his last seven games, the former R's star has once again been catching the eye of England's elite clubs. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are two of the clubs linked with a summer swoop for Eze.
The England international has been with Crystal Palace since 2020, joining the Eagles from QPR in a deal worth a reported £16m, with £4m in add-ons. Since then, the midfielder has gone on to become a key player at Selhurst Park, and represent his country in the 2024 European Championships.
Eze reportedly has a £68m release clause in his Palace contract, which has alerted some of England's finest clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, his former club, QPR, could already be counting their money, as they reportedly have a 20% sell-on clause in the 26-year-old's contract. Should he depart Crystal Palace this summer, the R's could be in for a heavy cash windfall.
During his time with Palace, Eze has established himself as one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in English football. The man with 10 England caps has played over 150 times for the London club, notching up over 50 goal contributions.
The Eagles have acted as a great stepping stone for the 26-year-old to find his feet in the Premier League, and go on to become a top player in the division. Now, it seems just a matter of time before he's snapped up by one of England's big-six clubs.
Eze has hit form at the right time, with six goal contributions in his last seven matches across all competitions, which includes a stunning volley against Arsenal in a 2-2 draw with the Gunners on Wednesday night.
With a £68m release clause reportedly in his contract, Palace could cash in on their star man this summer and be in for a strong cash windfall. However, they won't be the only club counting their money should a sale occur.
As suggested, QPR inserted a 20% sell-on clause as part of the deal with their fellow London club when they sanctioned the sale of Eze back in 2020.
Five years later, it sounds like this clause could pay dividends if another club opts to pay the £68m to activate the 26-year-old's release clause. If that amount is correct, the R's could pocket around £14m from a sale, which is only around £5m less than what Palace initially paid the Superhoops for him.
This cash windfall will come as a welcome bonus for the QPR hierarchy. With Manager Marti Cifuentes reportedly considering quitting his job, he could be convinced to stay if he has a bit more financial backing in the summer.
The former Premier League side have been stuck in a rut of mid-table finishes over recent years, and Cifuentes hasn't had the budget to compete at the top of the Championship. However, the cash windfall from a potential sale of Eze could be a key in keeping the Spanish manager.
The R's hierarchy will be pleased with anything they receive from their former star's summer transfer, should he move on from Crystal Palace.
Not only could it help convince Cifuentes to stay, but it could provide the club with the money needed to reinvest in the squad, and take them to the next level.
