FLW's resident QPR fan pundit has discussed two potential transfer scenarios which could play out at Loftus Road in January
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
QPR have been backed to sign another striker in the January transfer window, while highly-rated youngster Rayan Kolli could depart the club.
It's been a bitterly disappointing season for QPR thus far, who were tipped to kick-on this time around under the tuition of Marti Cifuentes but have largely flattered to deceive and currently find themselves in genuine danger of relegation.
Of course, we are not even one third of the way through the 2024/25 Championship campaign yet and the R's still have plenty of time to turn their current fortunes around, although the available evidence is damning and a significant January transfer window may be required in order to stave off the threat of relegation.
We asked our resident QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, to predict two potential transfer scenarios which could realistically play out at Loftus Road in January.
Louis believes it's imperative that his side acquire another striker in the next window, having struggled infront of goal so far this season. After 13 matches, just Swansea City have scored fewer goals than QPR's 11 across the Championship, and with only Michael Frey having found the back of the net on more than one occasion from open play in league action, there is an understandable emphasis on strengthening the forward line.
"I think there is definitely a certainty that could happen with us in the January transfer window," Louis told Football League World.
"With the way it's going, Michael Frey started the season on fire but hasn't scored for a few weeks now, he's currently out injured, Zan Celar came in but hasn't scored a goal yet and hasn't looked great.
"Then apart from that, we've got Alfie Lloyd but he's a young striker and you can't be relying on him. We all knew the situation, I don't understand why we didn't sign another striker in the summer.
"It's coming back to hurt us now when you're looking at the current situation, so I can definitely see a loan or maybe a permanent signing of another striker in January, and I'm praying we get someone who's actually got a bit of pace about them because that would give us a different option up-front as well."
The second January transfer window prediction issued by Louis is one which would not be quite so beneficial to QPR, as he has mentioned the possibility of the youngster leaving the club. The 19-year-old winger has impressed when handed the opportunity, although his contract is up next summer and he's struggled to feature in the matchday squad as of late.
This leads Louis to believe that a January exit could be on the cards for Kolli.
"Another thing, the situation with Rayan Kolli. He got minutes at the start of the season and then I don't know if anything's happened behind the scenes contract-wise, his deal is expected to run out next year," Louis continued.
"He's meant to be one of the most promising youngsters we've seen come through the academy, but something has obviously happened. He's not even getting on the bench in games, and the longer it goes on, what are you going to do?
"He could end up getting sold and we could get a bit of money for him, and January would be the only time to do that. Unfortunately, if that was to happen it would be a shame because everyone wants to see more of him. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
