Racing Santander have made Sevilla playmaker Peque Fernández a leading target as they prepare for their return to La Liga. Sevilla are open to finding exits for players who have not settled, with a major attacking rebuild under review for next season.
Manolo Higuer said: "José Alberto and I spoke with Peque, he is one of ours, but we sold him for four million to Sevilla and they will not give him to you for free. It is really complicated." He was speaking to Cadena SER.
Backed by Víctor Orta and García Pimienta, who knew him from Barcelona’s academy, Peque moved to Andalusia in summer 2024. He has delivered four goals in 47 appearances for Sevilla, after 20 goals and five assists for Racing across two seasons.
Racing are also pursuing Sergio Canales, the former Real Betis leader from 2018 to 2023. SER Deportivos Cantabria reports the deal is being finalised on a one year contract with an optional second. He will arrive on a free after announcing his departure from Rayados de Monterrey, where he played alongside Sergio Ramos, Lucas Ocampos, Tecatito Corona, Óliver Torres and Anthony Martial.
Sevilla’s recruitment priority is a new goalkeeper given the shortage of options. A return for Odysseas Vlachodimos is not ruled out if Newcastle United lower their demands, with the Greek keen to remain in Nervión. Alternatives include Villarreal CF’s Diego Conde and Athletic Club’s Julen Agirrezabala.
