After an early goal, Köln were in control for much of the first half and were set to take a lead into the break. However, on the verge of halftime, Albian Hajdari found Ozan Kabak in the box to pull level.

Kabak's goal completely changed the momentum, as Hoffenheim nearly scored again before the break and dominated large periods of the second half to go up 2-1. However, a goal from Said El Mala earned Köln a point in a 2-2 draw.

Köln shockingly took the lead after just 15 minutes when Said El Mala found Ragnar Ache in the box. Ache hit a stunning acrobatic bicycle kick that left Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann with no chance, giving Effzeh an early 1-0 lead.

Köln stayed on the front foot and almost doubled their lead six minutes later when Jakub Kamiński latched on to the ball in his own half, beat a defender, but Baumann saved his shot.

Moments later, Eric Martel, who was set to be on the bench before Jan Thielmann picked up an injury during warm-ups, saw his header go just wide of the post as Köln continued to trouble Hoffenheim's defense.

Köln's Marvin Schwäbe was called into action after 29 minutes, tipping Andrej Kramarić's shot over the bar to keep the score at 1-0.

As the half progressed, Hoffenheim became more and more comfortable. Then, right before the half, they struck, as Hajdari's low ball found Kabak in the box to make it 1-1.

Hoffenheim weren't stopping there. Bazouma Touré latched onto the ball, and Hoffenheim set off on a blistering counter, combining well to get a great chance. Somehow, they failed to get a shot off, though, and it stayed level going into the break.

Köln had a scare five minutes after the restart when they gifted Hoffenheim possession deep in their own half. Köln's defense came to Schwäbe's aid, though, and another big chance passed without Hoffenheim managing to get a shot off.

Hoffenheim continued to create chances in the second half, though. After 57 minutes, Bazoumana Touré latched onto the ball in the box, but his shot was mishit and went well wide.

One minute later, Hoffenheim put the ball in the back of the net, but the ball was out of play before the cross.

They continued to push forward and were rewarded in the 60th minute. Touré and Asllani combined well, with Asllani finding Touré in the box with a backheel.

Touré's shot hit the crossbar, and it seemed Schwäbe made a fantastic save on the follow-up shot, but Kramarić's shot had crossed the line, giving Hoffenheim a 2-1 lead.

Only one minute later, Touré had another good chance as Hoffenheim continued to apply immense pressure on Effzeh.

Köln didn't give up, though. A brilliant pass by Kamiński found El Mala through on goal, and El Mala slotted the ball between Baumann's legs to equalize.

Hoffenheim pushed for a late winner, but ultimately were forced to settle for the 2-2 draw. Ilzer's side will host relegation battlers St. Pauli next Saturday, while Köln visit FC Augsburg.
