Raheem Sterling was detained by British police after a crash on the M3 in Hampshire. The former England winger, linked with Benfica in January, was held on suspicion of drug-driving, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a sample, then released on bail as inquiries continue.

According to The Sun, the incident happened near the Minley junction, involved no other vehicles and caused no injuries.

Sterling was driving a Lamborghini when he lost control and hit the roadside barriers, prompting a police response.

Those close to the player are said to believe he is in a particularly difficult phase of his career, struggling with a reduced role in European football. The situation has had a marked emotional and psychological impact.

He has 82 England caps and 20 goals, and enjoyed major domestic success with Liverpool and Manchester City.

Valued at three million euros, Sterling joined Feyenoord in January after spending the first half of the season without a club. In 2025/26, he has made eight appearances, totalling 421 minutes, and registered one assist. More recent spells at Chelsea, Arsenal and Feyenoord have been marked by inconsistency.
