Rangers chief financial officer James Taylor has emerged as a serious contender as the club looks for a new chief executive, according to the Scottish Sun.
They parted with Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell earlier this week following a woeful start to the season.
The owners are searching for replacements, and the 42-year-old has impressed the decision-makers after Rangers recorded £94 million in revenue for the year.
Taylor ticks several boxes as he knows the Scottish Premiership club well, and support for him is gathering pace behind the scenes.
Former Rangers chairman Fraser Thorton has been named interim chief executive officer until chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe find a permanent replacement.
Thorton could be in the running for the job, while former Rangers captain David Weir and Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows have been linked.
However, Taylor is an early front-runner and current favourite to land the job, having done well with the club’s accounts since assuming his current role in September 2023.
He has been in charge of leading the financial operations and financial strategy of Rangers, and he may now fancy his chances of becoming the next chief executive.
The Gers have lost four of their opening five Europa League group games this term, drawing 1-1 against Braga in their fifth game last night.
Rangers manager Danny Rohl will be desperate to turn things around on the continent after some impressive domestic performances and results since he took over.
The club’s hierarchy has to get the appointment of their next chief executive and sporting director right, and the fans cannot wait to see who will succeed Stewart and Thelwell.
