Rangers’ win over Hibs was a big deal – tough venue, hungry host, and yet despite some fortune Rangers took the 3 points. Danny Rohl’s Rangers face Celtic.

It was a coup for new coach Danny Rohl to get all the reward in Edinburgh and make it two out of two in the league.

But the difficulty just went up a massive amount and as the new coach takes his men to Hampden the real test starts.

Forget ‘new manager bounce’ because Celtic have this too – their appointment of MON cancels Rangers’ own one out. That’s neutralised.

But the chance is there for Rohl to make a huge, huge statement against an embattled Celtic who have been in some rotten form. That said, their fans wanted rid of Brenda almost as much as Rangers supporters wanted Martin ejected, so that’s slightly less of a crisis to them.

Will MON give them life back? If Falkirk is anything to go by, maybe…

But it’s all about the Rangers, and Rohl taking his (kind of) in-form side to Mount Florida.

As we said, this is a step up. Rangers managers are 100% measured on their results against Celtic.

The last manager to actually get results against them was Gerrard, albeit Gio got one in the cup. The rest of the wins were once the league was already gone.

This weekend is cup but it’s everything to play for in every sense.

The psychology of this one is huge – both sides aren’t at their best overall and the win would mean everything.

Squad

Can Rohl do it? Well he’ll be buoyed by the result at Easter Road, but Celtic are a big leap up. They have a much, much better squad and Rangers having a new coach doesn’t change that.

The only man who could overcome that kind of adversity was the legendary Walter. Danny Rohl’s Rangers face Celtic.

Has it come too early for Rohl? Probably. But we could find out on Sunday if Danny Rohl is the real deal or not.
