Alan Nixon has revealed a big update regarding Rangers and their summer recruitment plans. The Ibrox hierarchy is tracking Hull City shot-stopper Ivor Pandur. They want him. The issue, as it usually is in Glasgow, comes down to hard cash.
Hull want a hefty £10m for the 26-year-old. Rangers won’t pay it. Not upfront, anyway. Instead, a creative player-plus-cash deal is being cooked up behind the scenes. This proposal could see the current number one, Jack Butland, head to the MKM Stadium.
Pandur had a brilliant 2025/26 campaign in the Championship. 11 clean sheets in 45 games is no mean feat. It even earned him a spot in Croatia’s recent 2026 World Cup squad. Rangers scouts are convinced he is the long-term answer between the sticks.

Sanctioning an eight-figure sum for a goalkeeper makes zero financial sense for Rangers right now. The transfer budget simply cannot take that kind of hit. It explains why the board is digging its heels in during these talks with Hull.
Trading Butland might lower the initial bill, but it feels like a massive gamble. You are losing a proven leader. A fan favourite. A massive presence in what has been a fragile Ibrox dressing room. Spending £10m on a player who hasn’t played a single minute of Scottish football is a risk that could easily backfire, especially if it drains funds needed elsewhere.
New manager Derek McInnes needs stability. He needs a keeper he can trust from day one if he wants to build a proper, title-challenging side. Ripping up the foundation to chase an expensive alternative feels incredibly short-sighted.
Rangers should walk away if Hull refuse to drop their valuation to the £5m mark. Throwing most of your summer budget at one position is asking for trouble. McInnes desperately needs extra technical quality in the middle of the park. He needs more firepower up front. Keeping Butland gives the club a predictable, solid baseline for the domestic campaign. Splurging everything on an unproven asset rarely delivers silverware to the blue side of Glasgow.
