Reports from The Sun, relayed by Transfer Feed, suggest McInnes is ready to formalise a bid after constructive initial dialogue between the two sides. Nothing is signed yet. But the player himself wants it. The chance to play regular first-team football in front of 50,000 at Ibrox is a massive pull for the youngster, even if Brighton are digging their heels in slightly over a player they rate highly for the long haul.

If Rangers can wrap this up within the next 48 hours, Cozier-Duberry might even feature in their upcoming friendly against West Ham United.

Valued at around €5 million with a Brighton contract running until June 2028, the lad brings a very specific profile. He is left-footed but plays off the right flank. That gives him that classic, direct cutting edge to chop inside and drive straight at the heart of opposition defences.

This is precisely the market Rangers should be hunting in right now. League One isn’t the Premier League. We all know that. Yet producing 18 goal actions across an intense campaign at just 20 years old means something. It shows stomach. It shows a player who didn’t just drift through a loan spell, but actually grabbed matches by the scruff of the neck.

With Europa League football on the horizon, McInnes desperately needs pace and natural width. Cozier-Duberry gives him both. Some fans will naturally wonder if jumping from English third-tier football straight into the pressure cooker of Ibrox and European nights is too steep a step up. It isn’t.

Rangers offer a stage Bolton simply can’t match, and throwing him into proper competitive fixtures will do far more for his development than sitting on a Premier League bench or taking another minor loan move.
