Rangers have slapped a massive price tag on Connor Barron. According to Football Insider, the Ibrox hierarchy won’t even pull up a chair to negotiate unless a bid of at least £8m lands on the table. It is a bold stance. Continental clubs are sniffing around, but the Glasgow giants have zero intention of letting a vital first-team asset leave on the cheap.

Italian side Bologna are leading the chase. They have fancied the combative 23-year-old for a while now, though previous enquiries got short shrift from the Rangers board. Barron arrived from Aberdeen on a free transfer back in 2024. Since then, he has turned himself into the undisputed heartbeat of the midfield.

The 2025/2026 campaign wasn’t entirely smooth sailing for the Scot. Two frustrating knee injuries threatened to derail his progress. He still managed 23 Premiership appearances, chipping in with two assists. It is his work off the ball that really gets the Ibrox crowd off their seats, though. When you analyse the data, his interception and recovery numbers in the engine room are right at the top of the charts.

Selling now makes very little sense. Yes, an £8m valuation reflects his massive potential, but replacing him in the current market is a nightmare. Look at the club’s recent transfer business. Rangers saw a £5.3m bid for Tromso’s Jens Hjerto-Dahl knocked back. That tells you everything about how expensive it is to find decent central midfielders these days.

Derek McInnes needs stability. Barron knows the Scottish top flight inside out, and losing his energy in the middle of the park would leave a gaping hole. Unless a mind-boggling offer arrives that completely smashes that £8m baseline, keeping him around is the only logical move. Rangers need a settled core if they want to wrestle the league title back next season.
