The 2026 World Cup is just around the corner and casting its shadow ahead. Numerous national coaches have already nominated their provisional squads, and the first Bayern professionals are now certain that they will be heading to North America. Now the next nomination has been made
After Josip Stanisic learned today, Monday, that he will be traveling to the World Cup with the Croatian national team, Austria national team coach Ralf Rangnick has now also nominated his squad, including several players from the Bundesliga
Among them, of course, is Konrad Laimer, the flexible FC Bayern player who primarily plays on the left or right side of the back four in Munich, but likes to play in midfield for the ÖFB
The Austrian squad reads quite prominently, with Bayern star Laimer, ex-Bayer David Alaba, BVB star Carney Chukwuemeka and Christoph Baumgartner from RB Leipzig also represented

Austria will face Jordan, Argentina and Algeria at the World Cup, so the group is certainly challenging, but Laimer definitely wants to reach the knockout round with the ÖFB selection
The 28-year-old has played 56 international matches for Austria so far, scoring seven goals. He appeared in 46 games for Bayern in the 2025/26 season, scoring 16 times, and will also play in the cup final on Saturday before joining the national team to prepare for the big tournament
Meanwhile, his future in Munich is likely to be clarified after the tournament. After it was initially reported that Laimer’s demands were very high, it was recently reported that Laimer had taken a step towards FC Bayern and adjusted his salary demand. This would mean that an extension would become much more realistic.
