Claudio Ranieri addressed Roma’s shortcomings in his post-match presser following the team’s 1-0 loss to Napoli.
Among other things, the coach discussed Lorenzo Pellegrini’s struggles.
“We must help him recover,” said Ranieri. “He’s going through a difficult spell.”
“In a moment as complicated as this one we must help him. He’s got great qualities.”
“Soulé? I needed to open up the opposing defense and not close it down.”
“I had worked all week to try to open up Napoli and put the balls into space, the goal opportunity came from this. By putting the team back into 4-4-2 I wanted to put the team wide and make good crosses for Dovbyk.”
“We were crushing each other, but if you look at how many saves my goalkeeper made… We couldn’t score, it will be for the next one.”
“How did Napoli do last year? Unfortunately it’s a team sport and when the players get depressed the problems get worse. We’re on the right path, we have to insist on this line.”
“The goal that we conceded came due to our lack of concentration, we must improve on our concentration. We must work and improve, but we must not give up.”
