Bayern Munich defender Raphael Guerreiro produced a brilliant performance in their 3-1 win against St Pauli last Saturday.

The 31-year-old is a natural left-back, but quite surprisingly, Vincent Kompany has used him in the attacking number 10 role.

The 31-year-old has a contract with Bayern Munich until the end of the season, and as a result, speculation has emerged over his future at the club.

According to a recent report from A Bola, Portuguese club Benfica are looking to sign the left-back/winger in the January transfer window.

Guerreiro has openly admitted to being a “big Benfica fan,” and this should certainly help him secure a move to the Portuguese club.

Jose Mourinho apparently is a big fan of the defender, and he is likely to give him more game time this season than he is currently getting at Bayern.

Guerreiro has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, and started in five of them.

In the Bundesliga, the win over St. Pauli was only his second start in the league. He has further started in the Champions League vs Pafos FC and Club Brugge.

Will Bayern sell Guerreiro in January?

With Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, and Jamal Musiala set to return at some point in the second half of the campaign, Guerreiro may struggle to get regular game time.

Christian Falk told CF Bayern that Guerreiro’s January transfer could be problematic.

Bayern have a small squad, and he is essentially seen as a backup. Josip Stanisic and Tom Bischof can play in his position, and with Davies returning in the winter, Bayern could be open to negotiations.

At the same time, Sacha Boey is facing an uncertain future at Bayern, and Crystal Palace are interested in signing him. If Boey leaves, selling Guerreiro could become problematic.
