Coming on the back of a disappointing result against Newcastle United, Barcelona returned to winning ways in an emphatic fashion, securing a 5-1 win over Sevilla.

It was a dominant display from the Catalans, with Raphinha notably scoring a hat-trick, helped by two early penalties won by the team.

Joao Cancelo also scored his first goal since returning to Barcelona and was one of the best performers in a night where coach Hansi Flick resorted to multiple changes on account of the upcoming second leg clash against Newcastle United.

The win helps Barcelona regain their four-point advantage over Real Madrid at the top of the table and will set them up nicely for the midweek Champions League encounter.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 5-2 Sevilla.

Joan Garcia: 6.5

Joan Garcia was helpless to stop the effort from Oso, which was well executed. He would have felt he could have done better to stop the second goal, though.

Although he will be disappointed not to have managed a clean sheet, it was otherwise a clinical performance in between the sticks from the Spaniard.

The goalkeeper remained alert whenever Sevilla made any inroads in the final third and made a couple of decent saves, including the one to deny Ruben Vargas.

Xavi Espart: 7.5

With Jules Kounde injured, the rapid emergence of Xavi Espart has been a blessing for Barcelona. The youngster used his nimble footwork to bring the ball out from the back.

Although he wasn’t as effective as Cancelo on the opposite, he was a stable presence on the flanks.

Pau Cubarsi: 7

Pau Cubarsi didn’t have much to do against a Sevilla attack that lacked any courage or incision. He offered stability at the heart of the Barcelona backline. He will be disappointed not to manage the clean sheet, though.

Gerard Martin: 7.5

Gerard Martin was a vital cog in Barcelona’s build-up from the back. His ability to make forward passes, coupled with the technical advantage of being a left-footed centre-back, meant he was deeply involved in the build-up play. He was replaced later in the game.

Joao Cancelo: 9.5

Joao Cancelo was one of the best performers on the night for Barcelona. He was involved in winning both the penalties and was a major nuisance for the Sevilla defence on the left-hand side.

The Portuguese international deservedly scored a goal in the second half, in what was his first since rejoining Barcelona earlier in the month. This performance will go a long way in convincing Barcelona to make him a permanent signing this coming summer.

Pedri: 7.5

Pedri was effective as ever, orchestrating possession in the middle of the park and finding those pockets of space that allowed Barcelona to break the backs of the opposition’s second line of press.

Pedri was replaced at half-time, as Flick kept one eye on the upcoming game against Newcastle United.

Marc Bernal: 8

It was yet another solid display from Marc Bernal. With Frenkie de Jong out, the youngster orchestrated the play well in the middle of the park, notably gelling well with Pedri in the double-pivot.

Roony Bardghji: 6.5

Roony Bardghji was one of the few players who were not able to make that much of an impact for Barcelona in the final third. The new signing from Copenhagen had an excellent opportunity to make his presence felt against a struggling Sevilla defence.

However, the Swede was not decisive enough to make that impact. He was later subbed off during the final phase of the game.

Dani Olmo: 8.5

Dani Olmo was a lively presence for Barcelona in the middle and final third of the pitch. His ability to work in tight spaces made him an asset for the home side, especially when trying to break the shackles of the opposition defence.

The former RB Leipzig playmaker did well to capitalise on his chance, too, scoring a valuable goal that helped Barcelona further impose their authority on the proceedings.

Raphinha: 10

Alongside Cancelo, Raphinha was a standout player on the night for Barcelona, notably scoring a hat-trick. Although two of his goals came from penalties, they were well taken. Even apart from the goals, he was a livewire in the final third, making life difficult for the Sevilla defenders. Man of the match.

The hat-trick will go a long way in boosting the confidence of Raphinha, who has been going through a rough patch lately. He was fighting for every ball while his manic pressing made it difficult for Sevilla defenders to even keep the ball for a second.

Robert Lewandowski: 6.5

Robert Lewandowski was a key presence for Barcelona in the vital third. But it was a rather frustrating night for the Pole, who did not necessarily find himself in too many goal-scoring opportunities. He missed a notable chance during the final stage of the game.

Fermin Lopez: 8

Fermin Lopez replaced Pedri at half-time and added more attacking impetus to the Barcelona team. This instantly improved the performance from the Catalans, who went on to fully dominate the second half.

Lamine Yamal: 6.5

Lamine Yamal didn’t have much to do as he replaced Bardghji during the final phase of the game. He was lively enough and will be hoping to make a difference against Newcastle United.

Marc Casado: 7

Marc Casado did well to further stabilise the Barcelona midfield after coming on for Bernal. He made an important interception and was always alert.

Ronald Araujo: 6.5

Offered freshness to the Barcelona defence after replacing Martin during the final phase of the game.

Gavi: N/A

Gavi received a standing ovation after making his much-awaited comeback to the pitch.
