FC Barcelona end a nail-biting fixture against Newcastle United with a hard-fought victory. Despite being away from home in front of a very active crowd, Hansi Flick’s side managed to come away with all three points from this game.
A 2-1 victory, it was made possible thanks to two brilliant goals from Marcus Rashford and the immense defensive performance that Barça put on display. Big win for La Blaugrana, especially considering the circumstances.
Here are the player ratings for Hansi Flick’s team.
Player Ratings:
Joan Garcia: 8.5
Top performance during the first half from the Spaniard, as he saved a certain goal to help keep Barça in the game. Beyond that, he seemed composed throughout the game and made sure the team always felt secure with him defending the goal.
Jules Kounde: 8.5
Back to his consistent best, the Frenchman had a great game. Defensively solid, making several crucial blocks, and he also got an assist for the opening goal scored by Barça.
Ronald Araujo: 8.0
Brilliant in terms of his defensive contributions, and constantly made sure to stop any advances being made by Newcastle United. The opposition forwards were kept at bay, and his own progression with the ball was commendable as well.
Pau Cubarsi: 8.0
Brilliant in terms of his passing, the youngster read the game quite well and it helped eliminate good opportunities that Newcastle United tried to create for themselves. Top display from the young defender.
Gerard Martin: 7.5
Solid on the left flank and held his own quite well. A bit shaky at times, but overall left a very good impression in a very tough game.
Frenkie de Jong: 8.5
Orchestrated the midfield alongside Pedri, and dictated the tempo of play. It was a great outing for the Dutch midfielder, and a good performance from him automatically translates to a great display from the team as well.
Pedri: 8.5
Despite the opposition’s attempts to limit his involvement in the game, Pedri was unplayable once he got himself into the game for Barcelona. Great on the ball and consistently kept Newcastle United running after him.
Raphinha: 6.5
Struggled during the first half, and some of his decision-making was frustrating as well. However, he did slightly improve during the second half but it was still an underwhelming performance from the Brazilian.

Fermin Lopez: 6.5
Good energy from the Spanish midfielder, but he was hardly too impactful. He had a few good moments, but he was a bit underwhelming in this game considering his sensational performance in the previous game.
Marcus Rashford: 9.0
Simply out of this world for Barcelona in this game. He was already showing signs of his quality and threat during the first half, but he truly exploded during the second half. Scored the opener with a well-placed header, and then scored once again with a thunderous strike from distance.
Robert Lewandowski: 6.5
Quite restricted and did not get many opportunities to thrive during this game. Did well to put pressure on Newcastle United, however.
Substitutes:
Andreas Christensen: 6.5
Good performance from the Danish defender, especially in terms of his distribution. Defensively, however, he was not tested much.
Ferran Torres: 6.0
Covered a lot of ground and got into some positions where Newcastle United were vulnerable, but could not do much else.
Eric Garcia: 6.5
Went into every duel valiantly and it was clear to see his commitment. Even bought his teammates some valuable seconds during additional time.
Dani Olmo: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
