Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, had to wait for his opportunity against Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Rashford came off the bench with roughly 20 minutes remaining on the clock. He left his mark on the game with a late free-kick, grabbing his fifth goal in Europe this season.
Hansi Flick has given the Englishman limited starts in recent weeks, favouring Raphinha over the United loanee. However, the club’s hierarchy remain keen on keeping the prolific 28-year-old at Camp Nou beyond the current campaign. He has been directly involved in 21 goals across all competitions.
Barcelona have an option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently for €30 million. However, the La Liga giants’ financial predicament has made their pursuit difficult.
The Catalans do not wish to trigger the purchase clause and United have no desire to lower their asking price for the England international.
Interestingly, United have recently shown interest in Barca midfielder Marc Casado, having already made an enquiry for the Spaniard, who is willing to leave the Blaugrana.
According to The Touchline, as relayed by Barca Universal, Barcelona have offered Casado to United as part of a potential deal to sign Rashford on a permanent transfer.
Casado, who has drawn comparisons to Sergio Busquets for his technical prowess, is highly appreciated at Barcelona. His release clause remains set at €100 million.
However, Flick is blessed with a number of technically gifted midfielders.
As such, the La Liga leaders view the 22-year-old La Masia graduate as an expendable member of the squad and have offered United a chance to sign him in exchange for Rashford.
With Casemiro set to depart and Manuel Ugarte struggling to perform in the Premier League, United do need at least two midfielders.
Accordingly, a favourable swap deal may interest INEOS.
