Napoli are reportedly edging closer to completing a loan deal with an obligation to buy for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund no longer appears to be in Ruben Amorim’s plans at United following a difficult 2024/25 season, in which he netted just four Premier League goals.
He travelled with his teammates to the United States for pre-season but he has been frozen out of the team since the start of the competitive campaign.
The Dane was excluded from both of United’s matchday squads against Arsenal and more recently, Fulham. In both clashes, Amorim opted to start with a false nine before bringing on new signing Benjamin Sesko from the bench.
AC Milan appeared to be making the strongest advances to snap up Hojlund but they abandoned their pursuit, choosing to go for Victor Boniface instead. But, the Bayer Leverkusen forward failed his medical and will not be joining the Rossoneri this summer.
Romelu Lukaku’s injury saw Napoli enter into the fray for Hojlund and talks have been going in between United and the reigning Serie A champions to try and strike an agreement. Last week, Fabrizio Romano relayed that Hojlund is open to moving to Napoli but wants the deal to include an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Now, it has emerged that Hojlund is likely to get his wish, as club-to-club discussions advance.
According to talkSPORT duo Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook, United and Napoli are close to agreeing a deal for Hojlund. The transfer is set to include an obligation worth almost £40m.
Jacobs wrote on X, “Napoli now in advanced talks with Manchester United over Rasmus Hojlund.”
“Loan with conditional obligation discussed worth almost £40m, with loan fee in addition.”
This has been corroborated by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who notes Napoli want to close the transfer “in the next few hours.”
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Wednesday when they face Grismby Town in the second round of the EFL Cup.
