RATP has renamed three Paris metro stations to honour Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph over Arsenal. The gesture comes as celebrations sweep France after the 1-1, 4-3 on penalties win.
According to L'Équipe, the Île-de-France operator made the changes overnight from Saturday to Sunday to salute Luis Enrique’s team’s second straight European crown. The new signage was revealed on social media and quickly struck a chord with supporters.
Europe on line 3 has become 'Champions d'Europe', complete with two stars to signify continental success.
Porte de Saint-Cloud on line 9, close to the Parc des Princes, now reads 'Paris est magique'.
Rue du Bac on line 12 has been retitled 'Rue du Back 2 Back', a wordplay echoing PSG’s desire to stay at the summit of European football.
RATP has not said how long the temporary names will remain in place. They add to Sunday’s expected scenes of celebration in Paris as the European champions return.
