Raúl Jiménez marked his 2026 World Cup debut by beating South Africa goalkeeper Williams from inside the box to put Mexico 2-0 up. It was his first goal at a World Cup, and Mexico won their opening match for the first time.
According to Americayya.net, Jiménez has climbed the national scoring charts this year and is now close to the all-time lead. Earlier he remained behind Javier Hernández, Jared Borgetti and Cuauhtémoc Blanco.
He now sits second on Mexico’s list with 47 goals, five behind Hernández on 52.
It looks difficult for him to break the record at this World Cup, as he would need at least five more goals. Hitting six in this tournament would be absolutely historic for a Mexican striker.
Mexico’s leading scorers are Javier Hernández 52, Raúl Jiménez 47, Jared Borgetti 46, Cuauhtémoc Blanco 38 and Luis Hernández 36.
