RB Leipzig coach breaks silence on Real Madrid target Yan Diomande

Last Friday, the German outlet Bild published a surprise report claiming the interest of Real Madrid in the RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande. This news was quite a shock for several reasons. For instance, the Merengues already have Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe vying for the left wing position, and the addition of another left winger for a huge sum was difficult to understand.

Meanwhile, there were several other clubs interested in the Ivorian as well, and he was reported to have already reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain, although an agreement between clubs was yet to be reached. Furthermore, Liverpool had also seen a €100 million offer for him rejected by the German club.

However, the player’s links with Real Madrid have only strengthened in the ensuing days, even though Manchester City have also entered the race for his signing. Although it remains to be seen where he will end up playing, with all these European giants interested in him, one can easily bet that he will not be playing for Leipzig next season.

In fact, as Mundo Deportivo has noted, the Bundesliga side might already have made peace with the prospect of losing one of their best players. This was clear from the comments of their new coach, Martin Demichelis, who spoke to the press after a friendly game on Saturday.

When asked about Diomande, the Argentine tactician replied:

“He is still an RB Leipzig player, but in football, anything can happen.”

However, it is also clear that the Germans will not be letting their star player leave for cheap. They have already rejected offers of €100 million from both Liverpool and Real Madrid, and have pointed to Yan Diomande’s €130 million release clause to all the clubs making enquiries about the player. Going forward, it looks quite unlikely they will agree to an offer below that figure.
