Kicker reports that RB Leipzig have joined the race for Hoffenheim midfielder Grischa Prömel. Wolfsburg, Sevilla, and Prömel’s hometown club of Stuttgart are also rumored to be interested in 31-year-old, who is enjoying a fabulous “comeback campaign” with his current Bundesliga club.
Ill-timed injuries – particularly one occurring just prior to the 2022 World Cup – ended up de-railing Prömel’s highly promising career. The Germany U21 international and German Olympic representative was always considered an exceptional midfield talent. Prömel is finally firmly back in the saddle with Hoffenheim this year, scoring six goals and registering three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.
A former highly enthusiastic Union Berlin ‘club man”, Prömel surprised many when he opted to transfer back to his old academy side Hoffenheim on a free back in the summer of 2022. The four-year-deal he signed with die Kraichgauer is now set to expire and Hoffenheim are keen to cash in on their €3m-valued professional.
Leipzig have lost two midfielders – Amadou Haidara (sold) and Kevin Kampl (retired) – in the current January transfer window. The German Red Bulls must fact the fact that one of their own midfield mainstays, Xaver Schlager, sits on an expiring contract and potentially seeks a move to a new club. The Saxons remain very active in their search for additional midfield assistance.
