RB Leipzig pushing to sign Borussia Dortmund target Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea | OneFootball

Sky Germany reports that RB Leipzig are pushing to sign Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka on a permanent basis.

Leipzig have already held talks with the 21-year-old over a move this summer. Chelsea and Leipzig are also likely to initiate talks over Xavi Simons, so it would not be a surprise if the Premier League side uses Chukwuemeka as a makeweight in the deal.

Dortmund had targeted Chukwuemeka this summer as they looked to extend his loan at the club. However, Chelsea was only interested in selling the England youth international permanently. The 21-year-old’s previous loan agreement had a €35m purchase option, which Dortmund did not activate.

Following Jobe Bellingham’s early arrival, the Schwarzgelben are struggling to make further moves in the transfer market. The club tried to sign Ethan Nwaneri but failed, while their pursuit of Chukwuemeka also looks to have fallen apart.

Leipzig, on the other hand, despite missing out on European football completely, are not letting lose, and despite any major departures this summer, it has not stopped them from spending €92m so far this summer. An acquisition of Chukwuemeka would likely take their spending into the €120m range.
