RB Leipzig sporting director provides update on Yan Diomande talks with Real Madrid – “Some self-proclaimed transfer experts…” | OneFootball

It’s been over a week since reports claimed that Real Madrid had an agreement in place to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, although the reality is that a deal is not yet done. Bernabeu officials are confident that they will get their man this month, but for now, the wait goes on.

Diomande has been back training with Leipzig for a week, although he was not risked in a recent friendly in order to ensure that he’s fully fit to join Real Madrid when an agreement is reached between the two clubs. Until then, the situation remains in limbo, as was confirmed by the Bundesliga side’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer in comments made to Sky Sport Germany (via Diario AS).

“It is clear that some self-proclaimed transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was closed or they gave it the ‘Here we go’. It simply is not like that. We are not there yet.”

Schäfer: Agent drama will not affect Diomande deal

In the last few days, it has also been reported that the Diomande situation has been affected by agent conflict between the Ivorian’s previous and current representative(s). However, Schäfer has assured that the matter will not have an affect on club-to-club negotiations between Real Madrid and Leipzig.

“From my perspective, it’s a clear no. I’m not aware of that. There has been a change of agents. Our point of contact is now Roc Nation – that’s something Yan made very clear to us. I don’t think a transfer would fall through because of that, if it even comes to a transfer in the first place.”

It’s certainly not ideal that Real Madrid have not yet managed to sign Diomande. Head coach Jose Mourinho will want him in his squad as soon as possible ahead of the 2026-27 La Liga season starting soon, but he will have to be patient for now.
