The Hamburger Abendblatt reports that its local newly promoted Bundesliga side may be on the verge of a sensational transfer. Hamburger SV – having recently secured the services of French striker Rayan Philippe – may also acquire RB Leipzig club man Yussuf Poulsen. At this stage in his career, the Danish international may be amenable to switching clubs for the first time in 12 years.

Poulsen’s loyalty to Leipzig is legendary. The 86-times-capped Danish international joined the German Red Bulls in 2013 whilst they were still in the German third division. Since then, Poulsen celebrated two promotions and two domestic cup victories with the Saxons. Overall, Poulsen has made 425 competitive appearances for RB.

Hamburg continue to seek a replacement for their leading goal-scorer from last season, Davie Selke. Interestingly enough, Selke was also linked with a sensational move to Leipzig earlier this summer. The German paper notes that a transfer could be finalized for around €2-3m, though HSV would like to pay less.

The 31-year-old Poulsen is also willing to take a pay cut in order to move to a club that offers him better playing prospects. The Dane did net five goals in 29 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions last year. All told, the Copenhagen native has scored 95 RB goals over the course of his long career with his current club.
