RC Lens head coach Pierre Sage appeared to hint at left side reinforcements, with Sunderland full-back Arthur Masuaku linked with a move to the Ligue 1 club.
Lensois.com claims the club are eagerly awaiting Masuaku’s arrival, after weekend reports suggested a loan was moving closer.
The DR Congo international joined the Black Cats in the summer and has made only four first team appearances. He previously spent five years in Lens’ academy from 2003 to 2008.
On Saturday, Lens lost 3-1 to Marseille. Sage deployed right-back Ruben Aguilar on the left, highlighting a shortage in that area.
After the game Sage said the left side needs rebalancing and that more alternatives are required, adding the club are working on it and that the coming days should be brighter.
Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has said the club would not necessarily stand in Masuaku’s way this month if the right opportunity arose. He described the backline as the most competitive area and said any departure would depend on the collective and the player’s plans aligning.
