Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón has on Friday provided an insight into the club’s plans for the upcoming winter transfer window.
This comes after the injury crisis in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad was added to once more on Thursday night.
En route to the USA’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Jamaica, Johnny Cardoso was forced into a premature departure from proceedings, owing to a fitness concern.
This means that, for Betis’ return to action post-international break, boss Pellegrini may well be unable to call upon any of midfielders Cardoso, Marc Roca, William Carvalho or Isco.
This would leave Sergi Altimira as the Verdiblancos’ sole senior option in the middle of the park.
Speaking to the media on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the possibility of dipping into the market for reinforcements in January was put to the aforementioned Ramón Alarcón.
And, in quotes gathered by Mundo Deportivo, the Betis CEO refused to rule out as much, in responding:
“When the January market arrives, I know there’s been a lot of noise about it, we’ll see what happens. We’re always working and we’ll have to look for options to try to improve the squad, which is our responsibility, maintaining the balance between the economic and the sporting performance. When the winter market arrives we’ll talk, but we believe that the current squad, of the 24 players plus the two with a reserve team card who are practically in the dynamics of the first team, is sufficient for our objectives. But, logically, when this series of circumstances occur, we’ll have to act accordingly.”
