In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are showing interest in recruiting the France international next year.

Konate’s Recent Form In The Premier League

Konate has struggled to find consistency for the Merseyside club this season, but has done well to put in a run of solid performances for them on the defensive end of the field. The France international has scored one goal in 24 appearances for Liverpool in this campaign so far across various competitions.

The 26-year-old has been a rock at the back as he has made 29 tackles, 20 blocks, ten interceptions and 107 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession from inside his half after completing 89.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Merseyside club will run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on the cheap this January or on a free transfer next summer.

What Will Konate Bring To Real Madrid?

Konate is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball as well.

Standing at 1.94m, the French talent is a dominant presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Los Blancos manage to snap him up next year.

We can expect Konate to bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next year.

At 26, Konate has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for Los Blancos to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign. He might even help the Madrid giants compete for some major honours over the next few years. All in all, Alonso would be wise to move in for him next year.
