In a concerning development, OK Diario reports that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has sustained damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He was injured in the match against Getafe last night.

As a result, the 25-year-old star could be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after undergoing medical tests on Tuesday morning.

The worst-case scenario would confirm a rupture of the ligament, while the most optimistic outcome would be a sprain.

Rodrygo had returned from his previous injury in the game against Getafe. Only minutes after stepping onto the pitch, he went down on the flank when his knee became trapped in an awkward movement.

Signs of pain were immediately visible, yet he managed to continue and complete the game. However, discomfort persisted and the tests carried out on Tuesday, lasting almost one hour and 45 minutes, confirmed an injury to the ligament.

Reports emerged earlier claiming that there was a fear that the injury was a serious one for the Brazilian international.

Now, as per OK Diario, if the worst prognosis is confirmed and the cruciate ligament is torn, Rodrygo would miss the rest of the season.

In that case, he would also be unable to represent Brazil at the World Cup to be held this summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

It would be a significant blow for both the player and his teams, Real Madrid and the Brazilian national side.

It has been a difficult season for Rodrygo, with injuries hampering him at every step, limiting his game-time.

Just when he was looking forward to leave his fitness problems behind and gain prominence in the team, he has been struck down with another, possibly season-ending injury.
