Today is an important one for Real Madrid as the club are slated to sit down with the representatives of Vinicius Jr and hold a fresh round of negotiations over his contract.

The two sides have been at an impasse for months now, with Vinicius wanting to become the joint-highest earner at the club alongside Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid, so far, have resisted meeting his demands, but they are facing pressure with Arsenal also joining the race to sign the Brazilian international.

According to Cadena SER, the gap between the two parties essentially boils down to a difference of around €10 million.

Real Madrid’s last attempt to finalise a renewal came two weeks ago, when they tabled a deal until 2031 with a salary increase of roughly €22 million per year. Vinicius, however, rejected that proposal.

The winger is instead holding out for a figure closer to €30 million, the same amount Mbappe is understood to be earning, as he looks to establish himself among the very top earners at the Bernabeu.

To bridge the divide, Real Madrid are exploring creative solutions rather than simply increasing his base salary.

The club are reportedly considering ways to boost the percentage of income Vinicius receives from sponsorships and image rights, thereby bringing his overall earnings closer to his demands without breaking their wage structure.

There is a clear will to keep the Brazilian beyond 2027, and Jose Mourinho has played his part too.

The new coach waited until Brazil’s World Cup elimination to personally inform Vinicius that he is central to his plans, and the winger has become an important figure in the dressing room.

The stakes are high, with Vinicius entering the final year of his contract. Should no agreement be reached, Arsenal are lurking, having emerged as the most serious suitors should he become available, though no formal offer has been made as yet.

For now, all eyes are on today’s meeting, which could prove decisive in determining whether Vinicius commits his long-term future to Real Madrid or edges closer to a stunning exit.
