Real Madrid’s two-game winless run last week has sparked talks of a crisis at the club, while manager Xabi Alonso remains under scrutiny, along with one of the team’s biggest superstar – Vinicius Jr.

The pair’s relationship has been a major talking point in recent weeks, more so after the Brazilian winger’s outburst at the manager after his substitution against Barcelona last month.

While the forward’s public apology may have been perceived as an end to the matter, that might not be the case.

Real Madrid see Vinicius extension as a top objective

Amidst all this, Real Madrid seem to have taken their stance on the matter and could be leaning towards Vinicius Jr.

Indeed, according to reports from Carrusel Deportivo, the Merengues believe that Alonso has been ‘unfair’ to the Brazilian international and see the forward’s contract extension as a top priority.

Since the start of the season, Alonso showed that he was not afraid of making the big calls, axing Vinicius from the starting lineup and replacing him in matches when he felt like things needed a change.

However, the feeling within the club is that the Basque manager has been ‘mismanaging’ the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up and that he has not been entirely fair with the player.

As is already well-established, contract talks between Real Madrid and Vinicius have not been progressing well. The tension due to his relationship with Alonso has only made the situation more difficult.

Come summer of 2026, the Brazilian will have only one year left on his contract and there are several top clubs in Europe and teams from Saudi Arabia carefully monitoring the situation.

But the club’s main objective is to secure Vinicius’ future, with his current deal expiring in 2027.
