Real Madrid convinced UEFA will punish Barcelona over Negreira case – report | OneFootball

Florentino Perez’s press conference on Tuesday evening saw the Real Madrid president go all out against Barcelona, La Liga and Spanish football as a whole, among other entities.

He hit out at Barcelona specifically by accusing them once again of the Negreira case, calling it the biggest scandal in history.

Although Barcelona, too, have hit back with a statement, it appears Real Madrid are no longer just operating on the sidelines with respect to the Negreira scandal and will actively look to force a consequence.

Real Madrid are hopeful of UEFA punishment

According to AS, Real Madrid are confident UEFA will impose some kind of sanction on Barcelona in relation to the Negreira case.

This comes in the midst of reports that stated Real Madrid are preparing to formally submit a report to UEFA detailing Barcelona’s payments of €8.4 million over 17 years to the vice-president of the referees’ committee.

In Spain, progress has been painfully slow, with the Sports Law’s three-year statute of limitations effectively blocking any domestic sporting sanction. UEFA, however, operates under different rules.

Article 4 of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations allows the governing body to declare a club ineligible to participate in a competition for one season if it concludes the club was involved in any activity aimed at fixing or influencing match outcomes.

More importantly, UEFA is not bound by the decisions of national courts or sporting bodies, meaning the process remains very much open.

This is perhaps why Real Madrid remain confident that UEFA would be able to issue a tighter sanction against Barcelona, especially now that Los Blancos have restored their relations with the organisation by binning the Super League project.
