Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba could leave Real Madrid when their contracts expire next summer, according to ESPN.
Rudiger has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, and he could leave on a free transfer if Madrid decide not to extend his contract.
Alaba could follow the former Chelsea man through the exit door at the end of the season.
With Rudiger and Alaba facing uncertain futures, Madrid are reconsidering their plans to revamp their defensive options.
Los Blancos are in the market for long-term defensive replacements for both stalwarts.
Madrid had a long-standing interest in Arsenal centre-back William Saliba, and they did their best to stall his contract renewal at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the Frenchman is now expected to sign a new long-term deal with the Gunners, effectively ending any speculation about his future.
With Saliba no longer on the market, Madrid have shifted their attention back to Ibrahima Konate.
The Liverpool defender has been on Madrid’s radar, but opinions on him within the club are divided.
Konate has plenty of Premier League pedigree, and snapping him up on a free transfer would be a coup.
However, some people within Madrid’s hierarchy are cautious about whether he fits the club’s long-term vision. Liverpool are doing their best to keep Konate at Anfield.
Konate wants a salary package that reflects his importance in the team, but Liverpool want his rewards tied to his performances.
The stand-off paves the way for Madrid to swoop in, but they are assessing all their options.
Castello Lukeba is also on their radar, although he won’t come cheap, with four years left on his contract with RB Leipzig.
